Zoning Board Meeting On 9/4

The next zoning board meeting to discuss this situation with Verizon representatives will take place 9/4 @8pm at the 1 Jean Walling Civic Center Drive at 8pm

  • Verizon is trying to build another cell phone tower in a RESIDENTIAL (R3 zoned) area surrounded with small children & adults!
  • Verizon’s latest cell phone tower application and plan calls for heavy tree removal of 20+ trees and a street to be paved for a fire truck in the backyards of residents of Timber Rd and Chris Court in East Brunswick, NJ.  This beautiful residential area is heavily wooded, filled with wildlife and untouched since the 1920s.
  • Local residents don’t want it. More than 50 homeowners showed up to the last zoning board hearing. There are other locations/places that do want the income and do not create a 24-hour a day dangerous situation to homeowners (i.e. VFW in East Brunswick).

Cell Tower Safety in Residential Areas is a HUGE issue -- Other NJ township Zoning Boards DENIED Applications!

My parents live on Timber Road and received a note from someone saying "safety is a non issue" about fighting the proposed tower cell phone tower.   I have a quick question. Who thinks safety is a non issue? Can someone tell me why safety is a non issue?  Safety is an issue and not a waste of time.  These are just a few articles and quotes about why safety is a huge issue for residents.

"Those factors, and the fact the tower would be in the middle of a heavily residential area, all weighed against the project, officials said, and negotiations hadn’t even reached the point where Verizon was willing talking about possible rent charges on the property.“The board’s just going to drop it,” said Tom Fiorentini, the fire district’s principal staff assistant."

"Upholding the board’s decision, Weisenbeck agreed with the panel’s position that the cell tower’s location between the supermarket and the health club would have “an adverse impact on the surrounding properties, both on a visual level and from a safety standpoint.”

"That’s what radio frequency engineer Glen Pierson told the township Board of Adjustment on July 18, to explain why Verizon needs variances that would allow it to erect a 110-foot monopole cell tower off Route 31 south near Flemington. The tower and its equipment building would be toward the back of the 6-acre JCP&L property that’s just north of the Mercedes-Benz dealership. The pole would be 500 feet from the nearest residence."

It was an issue in Edison.
Verizon's applications were denied twice.   http://law.justia.com/cases/new-jersey/appellate-division-unpublished/2006/a3872-04-opn.html

"Homes within a one-block radius of the school were evacuated. Officials on the scene said all activities outside of the school were canceled for the day."

It's a safety issue. It's also going to be real estate issue!

In addition to safety...it's a huge issue if you want to sell your home.  Read this article in the New York Times.

EAST BRUNSWICK RESIDENTS

An application for a 120 foot tower and equipment shelter was introduced at the last East Brunswick zoning board meeting on May 1st 2014.  The Edison, NJ zoning board denied Verizon’s tower application for a 96 foot tower on April 23, 2014.

GO TO THE NEXT ZONING BOARD MEETING: The next zoning board meeting to discuss this matter is May 29th at 8pm in the municipal court house.  Please show up and be heard.

The Edison, NJ Zoning Board DENIED the Verizon's cell phone tower application.  This didn't happen on it's own. Homeowners contacted government officials and asked for help and we need to do the same.

Approval of this Verizon cell phone tower will set a precedent and pave the way for additional cell towers to be built in and around the area by ANY cell phone company. Your neighborhood might be the next target! This application might not directly affect your neighborhood now...but it could in the future.    Please take action and support your fellow friends and neighbors.

The East Brunswick, NJ Zoning Board will decide “yes” or “no” –  We need to ask the EB Zoning Board to do the right thing and not put our health or homes at risk.

Our elected political representatives  can help...but we need to ask for the help! Contacts for EB district 18 can be found here.
